Who am I?

about me

You can find me under the following categories: writer, editor, mother, bookworm & Stranger Things fangirl.

I began writing in the first grade. My first piece was a love letter to a boy in my class; it was not well received. In the seventh grade I wrote a short story called, ‘The Flea Who Could Jump’, which was a considerable improvement. In my teen years I experimented with poetry and a wide range of embarrassing Harry Potter fanfiction, before starting a blog in my early twenties while backpacking through Europe. It was during my overseas travels that I realised writing was not simply something that I loved to do, but something I needed to do.

I arrived home broke but determined to make my dreams a reality. It was back in my childhood bedroom that I wrote a series of educational children’s books with a supernatural twist. I self-published the first in the series, titled, ‘Wesley the Werewolf’, a story about a werewolf who refused to brush or wash his hair. I learned a lot through my self-publishing venture and decided that I didn’t only want to write, I wanted to proofread, edit, and help other writers turn dreams into reality.

So, I applied to university and was accepted into The University of Southern Queensland where I’m currently studying and earning my Bachelor of English Literature and Creative & Critical Writing. Writing has always been my greatest love, but now I’ve discovered a new passion in working with other authors and content creators.

When I’m not writing, I’m usually reading, eating pizza, watching Stranger Things or playing with my boys (my sons, Pippin and Sweeney, and cat, Crookshanks).

What am I working on?

I’m currently 47k words into a dark fantasy novel. I’ll reveal only three words about this project for now: riot grrrl vampires.

I’m also currently querying a middle grade fantasy novel titled, ‘The Science of Pepper Poppins’

MATILDA x CORALINE
Pepper didn’t know she had magical abilities – until she made her science teacher explode.

Now there are body parts in her basement, beady-eyed bullies on her trail, and she must make her teacher whole again – but the heart has gone missing.

This story is a mixture of magic, mystery, teen angst and Neil Gaiman-inspired levels of creepiness which began as an idea for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) many years ago.

My favourite storytellers

“It has been said that next to hunger and thirst, our most basic human need is for storytelling.” – Khalil Gibran
